Alska High Adventure Camp

Alaska Range

This hike winds throughout the rugged Alaska Range, skirting the southern flanks of magnificent mountains and high glaciers. After equipment familiarization, gear shake-down, and backcountry protocol training at Lost Lake Camp, you will be taken to the starting point at Landmark Gap Lake. From there your guide will lead you on a true wilderness hike though the Amphitheater Hills in the Alaska Range. There are no developed trails here, so you will be choosing your own paths through the mountain passes and streams to camp beside remote lakes and streams. Leave No Trace principles are the rule. There is good fishing in many of the lakes and streams, so dinner may not come from a foil pouch! There are caribou, Dahl sheep, and moose in the area, and bald eagles and bear may also be spotted. The trip length is variable from 5 to 50 miles, depending on your group. Hiking varies from easy to strenuous over typical Alaska tundra landscapes. It is entirely above timberline, so minimum impact camping will be the order of the day. Your group will be picked up along the scenic Denali Highway and returned to Lost Lake Camp.
